Dermatology is a branch of medicine specific to conditions of the skin, coat, and nails. Skin conditions are common in dogs and cats. Skin conditions can appear as oily, flaky, inflamed, and irritated skin. They can be itchy, missing patches of hair and sometimes have a pretty bad odour. These clinical signs can be caused by mites, fleas, bacteria, yeast, fungus, allergies and even underlying endocrine conditions. Determining the underlying cause is the key to treatment and management of the condition. So initially we may use a few diagnostic tests to help determine the cause. Treatment and management can sometimes be simple and straightforward but they can also be complex involving a multimodal approach. Whichever the case we are dedicated to helping you along the process.
